note: the quality of the video(glitchy parts during talking) and shortness of it are due to my phone loosing and altering the footage. what is in the video is all that survived.

Capstone Booth

i went for a simplistic design, keeping only things that i need to ensure that the presentation would be clean and well done. i put my poster on a board and a stand and my writing in the binder with my essay.  i think the presentation went well overall. the simplicity helped keeping the presentation organized and concise. the judges seemed to be happy with my presentation, so i believe it went well.

Presentation

the things i will do to better my capstone presentation will revolve around my poster. i will change it up and make more attention grabbing such that it will attract people to my project to want to learn more about the subject. i will also attempt to revolve the setup around the story but to such a point where the person listening does not have to read the story to get he main point. this will allow people to understand the point of my project without having to spend a large amount of time reading the main point of my presentation unless they want to.

PSA

My PSA is a video about the issues of bias and the problems that can occur. it does however take a more lighthearted tone in almost a satirical sense about the subject matter. It explains how a certain point of view can be exploited and the full story is manipulated or misrepresented. this can be a major issue. It is lighthearted but represents the issue nonetheless.

Speaker

this presentation was helpful for me. it helped me to further understand the implication of service learning in the final project. much of the process and dates of the project were further elaborated on for me.

PSA Intent

Reseaerch:
http://myweb.rollins.edu/jsiry/Advocate-MediaFocus.html#bias

http://www.democrats.com/node/11604

Your PSA:
the key points i will emphasize is how bias in news and media can lead to an uninformed public and how people have the right to the full story before the opinion of the author.

Appropriate visuals and audio that i can use are that of news programs and different things that help to convey the point.

The type of PSA that i will do is a straight informative and maybe live action video that will get across the issue of an uninformed public.

The structure i will use:
Example of problem bias.
Someone who is uninformed.
Examples of the problems.
Information about bias. information about the site.

Website

With my project being an actual website, this could go one of two ways:

This site could be used as the actual site for the project, in that case having the components of the project in it. this would include the database, comparisons, identifier of bias, and discussion. The database allows people to find articles that are non-biased so that they get the full story. Comparisons allow for both sides of an argument, showing biased posts on both sides and comparing them. The identifier is used to show the bias in major articles or reports so people can see what they are being told. The discussion allows for academic discussion over the articles and events that are being posted.

or

A site that supports my project, in which case there would be pages for info about my project, a page explaining what was explained above, a home page, a page that shows a concept and/or links to the actual website.

Poster

The poster that i do will probably be more on the serious side because of the subject matter. it will probably end up looking more along the lines of a newsprint or newspaper looking because it is related to writing and as of right now journalism. it will be incorporated in the presentation as a visual guide with important information and will be used as a visual in the presentation. i currently do not have the supplies or the quote selected for the poster, but will get them as soon as i get my project figured out. I do not know what size i will use.

Capstone

Because of my major in  creative writing, it was very difficult for me to find a topic to try and research for. I eventually settled on an idea to help with the problem of bias in reporting and journalism where it really shouldn't be. My idea for a project was a database that would show bias in articles so that the reader could be aware of it, as well as presenting other options of that story.
Because of my injury my product was never judged because of how behind I was. Had it been judged, however, i feel that it would have been rejected. From here i believe i need to work to either strengthen my original idea or pick something better relating to my career choice, which is very difficult.

Poster Research

1. Fill the poster, don't leave a lot of empty space.
2. Make the header/ title catching, not a turn-off.
3. Make the poster organized and understandable.
4. Make the poster colorful and interesting to look at.
5. Ensure the poster does it's job and is not overdecorated.
